So, watched the back-to-back season premieres of 24, the long running Fox thriller starring Kiefer Sutherland. As you may know, Kiefer has stayed true to his Canadian roots (while he was born in the UK, his father was born here, and Kiefer grew up here). He employs a lot of Canadians, both behind and in front of the camera. This year is no different, with former "Trudeau" star Colm Feore as the first husband (which is it's own in-joke, the former Prime Minister now the husband of a female American President) and Vancouver's own Carly Pope as his dead son's ex. But this year, there appears to be a little something extra for Canadian viewers.
The main bad guy Kiefer's character Jack Bauer is after at the moment, is a character named David Emerson. He's the smaller fish Jack needs to bring down to get the next bigger fish up the ladder (and yeah, fish do use ladders...look it up). Now, if you have been paying attention to federal politics for the past 3 years or so, and even more likely if you live in Vancouver or BC, the name should ring a bell immediately: David Emerson, the Liberal candidate from Vancouver-Kingsway who crossed the floor to become a Conservative in 2006. A mere coincidence ?
All I know, is that the fictitious Emerson of "24" is a former good guy who went over to the dark side. He has turned against all he had been given and is now a treasonous mercenary, working without conscious for whomever offers the most.
The actual Emerson is...no longer in office after two years of cries for his resignation, and choosing not to run again in 2008.
I wonder how the fictional Emerson will meet his end ?
Well I Don't Know That the fictitious Emerson of "24" is a former good guy who went over to the dark side. He has turned against all he had been given and is now a treasonous mercenary, working without conscious for whomever offers the most.
