BUFFY MUSICAL - ONCE MORE, WE'D LIKE TO DO IT AGAIN
So, what do you want, the good news, or the 2 pieces of bad news ?
OK, so the bad news, part one: there is no good news.
The bad news, part deux: NO Buffy Musical/Singy-Thingy this year. Where do we go from here ? Keep reading to the bottom if you want to see what I propose for this year...
You may not know this, as it gets little to no press, but the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has been in negotiations with their overlords for the past several months. The reason you may not know this is:
a) the OTHER white meat, ACTRA, settled their contract months ago.
b) instead of a strike (as the Writers partook), they are working through the negotiations (thus really giving previously mentioned overlords not really any impetus to settle contracts)
c) the rights to things such as DVD, download, and (here's where we come in) LICENSING works is part of said negotiations.
So, until this stuff gets figured out, we are a no go - though SAG is talking maybe they should not just work, but maybe stop working and get something happening, and maybe a strike vote would do said such thing. Or not.
In any case, stop looking into Fox's eyes, they have no candy for us.
But here's what I'd like to do: keep some spirit of it alive. As you may know, we have been doing the last few shows (the ones that MADE money) for charity, and since there is no Musical, I'd like to hold a kind of contest giveaway to see if we can do some good otherwise.
I have two very close relatives, one that has known for some time, one who just recently found out, that they have diabetes. My grandmother has been living with it for about a decade, and my father was just diagnosed. As was a friend's father as well. So I thought perhaps since it also the candy-gorging time of the year, why not try to throw a little something in that direction.
So, from NOW (whenever you read this), to October 31, 2008, any donation of $10 or more sent to the The Canadian Diabetes Association will be eligible for a really cool Buffy giveaway. How cool ? Spike cool. The kind of thing that will make you yell 'Get out get out get out!!!' at your siblings if they come near it!! If you know me and have been to one of our shows, you know I likes to give out the prizes...
So, once you have made your contribution, you can email a copy of your receipt (please take out any info I don't need to see, I just need your name and phone number visible, along with the amount donated. Since they should all look the same, I will know what to look for for forgeries, but I don't think you are that kind of people. Well, maybe one, and you know who you are. So stop it.
A direct link to the one-time donation page is here: DONATE!!
And you can email your receipt (with the word CANDY in the subject line - very important) to:
buffytix AT gmail.com ( you know, put that @ thing on there)
I will keep a tally running here, and I would love to have the Buffy community make this successful. The thing I have to give away is worth the effort, though the cause is worth it on it's own. I appreciate you reading to this point in any case.
PS: If you donate as above, AND send me a photo of you dressed in your best Buffy related costume, I will count that as two entries, though you agree to let me post it here...
And of course, feel free to enter several times - I'll count every donation of $10 or more as an entry, so feel free to go nuts!
